Becky Montgomery, a local businesswoman whose great-grandchild attends SNU Lab School, recently established the "Courtney Eckerd Lab School Endowment Scholarship Fund." The fund, managed by SNU, will produce income each year that can offset the cost of tuition for selected SNU Lab School students whose families meet certain eligibility requirements.
Mrs. Montgomery is the owner of Central Power Equipment in Warr Acres. Central Power Equipment has been a generous SNU Lab School "Joy Walk" annual fundraising event sponsor for the past two years.
"Mrs. Montgomery's generous gesture, during our school's 50th anniversary, is a testament to our staff, who cultivate a learning experience where students thrive; we could not be more pleased," states Ron Titus, SNU's School of Education chair and superintendent of SNU Lab School. Mrs. Montgomery shared more about establishing the fund and the special reason why she chose to give to SNU Lab School.
"Our journey with the SNU School for Children, now known as the SNU Lab School, began in 1996. The school was located at the SNU University campus. Courtney's mom, Heather Montgomery, our daughter, wanted to provide her with the best education along with a Christian-based foundation. At that point in time, the school was PreK-2nd. This set the foundation for Courtney to seek the same education for her child Penelope. She knew how important it was to provide her child with every opportunity to learn and build the foundation of Christian principles. Little did we know that God would take Courtney home in October 2015. She already had plans for her daughter, Penelope, to begin her education at the same school she attended. We have come full circle. We also need to thank Denver, Penelope's father, for his support in honoring Courtney's wishes. What a blessing the SNU Lab School has been. It is truly an honor for our family to give this endowment in honor of Courtney. I know it will bring many others the same blessings it has brought our family. May God continue to bless SNU Lab School."

Each year SNU Lab School seeks charitable donations from individuals, businesses, and others for the purpose of providing tuition assistance to numerous families whose children would otherwise not be able to attend the private school. The annual "Tuition Assistance Campaign" runs through May.
